A painting of a fancy planter with flowers draping down. The planter is a stack of plain terracotta pots sitting canted on top of each other because of a rod through their bottom holes.

Poised Pots

Hand painted in Rebelle 5 & 7 Pro on a Surface Pro 8 (i7, 16gb RAM) with Slim Pen 2.

I was having fun painting cars, but I wanted to expand my skill set and so I embraced a new challenge: painting some flowers!

I have a lovely pot stand that sits outside my window, carefully positioned so I can see my flowers as I work. I’ve wanted to illustrate them ever since I put it there, so it was an easy pick!

I did struggle with the organic shapes, and embracing a looser style that captures the impression of the plants and flowers, rather than each individual petal, leaf and stem. I still have a lot to learn about that, but I do like what I came up with!

The pots were the easiest part. Just another technical illustration like the cars I’d been working on.
